James Black is an experienced partner in our Commercial and Retail Banking team, with particular knowledge of consumer credit, mortgages and payments regulation. He works with a number of major banks and payment service providers, including merchant acquirers, and related businesses.
James also advises clients in the FinTech industry, from start-ups to established players. He advises on the implications of regulatory requirements for all aspects of our clients' businesses, such as product design, implementation of new legislation, commercial deals like co-branding or outsourcing arrangements, and transfers of portfolios or businesses.
James has a particular interest in innovative payment solutions and P2P lending. As an example of the breadth of James' practice, he has recently been involved in the development and launch of a significant mobile payment product, reviewing and re-drafting customer terms and conditions for current account, savings and credit card products for two banks, and a mortgage portfolio acquisition. As well as his experience in private practice, James has spent time on secondment with both a retail bank and a wholesale bank and understands the challenges clients face in the regulated financial services sector.
