Practice groupLitigation, Arbitration, and Employment

David Skaar vigorously prepares cases as if they are going to trial, while working with clients toward the best possible business outcome. David maintains a diverse practice, but his work focuses primarily on products liability, with an emphasis on the food, chemical and life sciences industries. He also has robust experience in class actions, contract disputes, mortgage lending and servicing matters, and other commercial and personal injury suits.

David has handled numerous aspects of litigation, from the first pleadings through fact and expert discovery, pre-trial motion practice, and trial. He has deposed numerous fact and expert witnesses, successfully argued the full range of pre-trial motions in state and federal court, and has argued before the California Court of Appeal.

In addition to his products liability work, David's recent experience includes the arbitration of a contract dispute between two health care providers, the defense of two class actions against a leading health plan, two food labeling class actions brought by consumers against manufacturers and retailers, a taxpayer collective action challenging the tax status of the largest health plans in California, a premises liability matter, and the successful resolution of several employment disputes involving alleged wrongful termination, harassment, and discrimination.

David's pro bono work focuses on representing unaccompanied minors in immigration proceedings, where his clients would otherwise have no access to legal counsel. He has successfully helped several children in obtaining legal status in the United States, through asylum and other forms of relief. David is heavily involved in the firm's Associates Committee, and he plays a vital role in the firm's recruiting efforts.

While attending Loyola Law School, David competed nationally on the school's trial advocacy team and served on the International and Comparative Law Review. David also clerked at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
