Law360 names four Hogan Lovells practices as Practice Groups of the Year

Washington, D.C., 8 February 2018 – Law360 has unveiled the winners of its 2017 Practice Group of the Year awards. Hogan Lovells was named a Practice Group of the Year in four areas, including, Capital Markets, Class Actions, Insurance, and Real Estate.

Now in its eighth year, Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year honors the top law firms behind the year’s major litigation wins and deals that resonated throughout the legal industry. The winners represented 80 law firms and included 176 winning groups across 35 practice areas.

In naming the firm as one of its Capital Markets Groups of the Year, Law360 said, “Hogan Lovells hit a voluminous stride in 2017 with debt offerings that totaled more than $62.6 billion and transactions that strengthened its foothold in emerging markets.” David Bonser, head of the firm's Equity and U.S. Debt Capital Markets Practice Group, credited the group’s success to an industry-specific, “one-stop-shop” approach where clients from different sectors come to the firm for capital markets transactions and the related regulatory work. “We can really do it all, and being able to provide that [level of client service] really is what makes Hogan Lovells a…firm with regulatory and industry depth, unique in this particular marketplace,” added Eve Howard,  Regional Managing Partner for the Washington, D.C. region. Law360 also noted that the firm “has a solid reach into Latin America to develop its emerging markets practice.”

As one of its Class Action Practice Groups of the Year, Law360 pointed to some of the firm’s precedent-setting victories in several high-profile class action and multidistrict litigation proceedings. With over 100 lawyers spread across all the firm’s offices, “Hogan Lovells’ global class action group can tackle complex MDLs and class actions in a number of industries,” said Craig Hoover, head of the firm's Global Class Action Group.

For the third time in four years, Hogan Lovells was named an Insurance Practice Group of the Year due largely to an antitrust multidistrict litigation win and settling a groundbreaking data breach suit. Law360 highlighted the group’s size of about 80 litigation, corporate, and regulatory lawyers in the U.S. and 220 worldwide. “I don't think there's any other law firm that has the bench we do in health insurance and property and casualty,” said Insurance Litigation Group co-head David Newmann. He also pointed to cyberinsurance, contingent liability insurance, and transactional risk insurance as areas of potential expansion and a major interest of clients.

Earning its second Real Estate Practice Group of the Year honor, Law360 highlighted the group’s strong year “reshaping the real estate sector through landmark deals.”  Mark Eagan, head of the firm’s Real Estate Practice for the Americas, said, “We can be the go-to firm for our most important clients in whatever capacity they need us and do it in a cost-effective way.” He also pointed to the group’s bench strength of more than 400 lawyers with 200 based in the firm’s New York, Denver, and Washington, D.C. offices.
