Hogan Lovells Boosts Litigation Practice with former Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, 29 April 2019 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells announced today that Ann C. Kim, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in its Litigation practice.

Kim joins the firm after spending over 12 years working for the federal government with nearly five years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California and, prior to that, seven years as a Senior Counsel in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Los Angeles Regional Office. Before joining the SEC, Kim worked for over six years as a litigation associate and counsel at an international law firm. As a result, she brings extensive experience with internal investigations, criminal and civil regulatory matters, and complex civil business litigation and will work closely with Hogan Lovells’ Investigations, White Collar, and Fraud practice. Her background positions her well to advise a wide variety of clients, including public companies, health care organizations, financial institutions, and investment funds on various investigation and white collar issues such as fraud, the False Claims Act, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

"We have been strategically expanding our practice, and Ann’s 12 years of government service and trial experience will enhance our securities offerings to clients on the West Coast," said Hogan Lovells’ Los Angeles Office Managing Partner Michael Maddigan. "Her background with government agencies, combined with her ability to speak Korean and her ties to the Korean community locally, make her a great fit for the strong Los Angeles team we’ve built in recent years.  She also is a wonderful person and will make a great addition to our team."

While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the SEC, Kim was involved in investigating and litigating high profile FCPA matters and violations of federal securities laws, including fraud schemes and insider trading cases involving Fortune 500 companies.

"I’m excited to return to private practice and use my experience with the government to assist Hogan Lovells’ global clients," said Kim. "The firm has amassed a talented and prominent team of litigators who are known both locally and globally for providing thoughtful, effective, and creative advice to the firm’s clients, and I’m looking forward to working with them."

Kim received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.
